iPads for cats?

iPads and electronics are becoming increasingly popular for many pet-owners, as well as their pets.

Apps have been being released as of late, with cats being the main target audience. Many of the apps feature targets such as small creatures that scurry about, for example Cat Fishing is an app which shows fish swimming across the iPad screen until they are pressed in which they run off.

“All of the Friskies Games for Cats are inspired by things that pique that amazing curiosity unique to cats…” said Nestle Purina, Friskies’ parent company.

Friskies has said that their games have more than 2.7 million downloads on iTunes, in fact YouTube holds an assortment of videos presenting cats playing the different Friskies apps.

Cat Fishing seems to rank the most popular among the apps made for cats with an overflow of positive reviews. “Downloaded this months ago and my buddy Hobbes still comes running whenever he hears the bubbles that signal the start of the game. He cannot get enough of this app!” said user Butters 867.

Though it seems as if dogs are being left out of this electronic playtime, but it may be for a rather good reason. “90 lb Golden Retriever vs iPad screen?? I’ll let you figure out the outcome of that one.” wrote user JackSpratsmom in response to the app Game for Dogs.

Instead new electronic toys are being introduced by companies which allows the busy pet-owner to take a break once in awhile. The Go-Go Dog Pal is a remote-controlled toy which runs about on wheels for dogs to chase and eventually catch. Meanwhile the Fetch Machine is better for those who constantly find themselves working late nights at the office. It works to shoot balls across the yard to catch and it comes with a simple reloader as well which even a puppy can be trained to use.

As electronics develop, they attempt to reach out for a far more diverse audience so why shouldn’t pets be a part of that?
