Holiday gift guide

A lot of times, most people have no idea on what to get their family and friends for Christmas, usually settling for a gift-card or money. Here are some fun ideas on presents to get your family this Christmas that they will love.

Mom:

Some gift ideas for mom include the following: a homemade spa kit, a personalized cookbook and a message jar. There are plenty of recipes on sites such as Pinterest for bath bombs, bath salts, lotion, face-masks and many more. Consider making a few Christmas themed spa items and arranging them into a decorated basket/container. If your mom likes to cook, create a special cookbook for her. Purchase a blank album at a craft store, then print out recipes and compile them into the book, including little personalized touches like quotes or sayings in-between pages. A message jar is a crafty option that is a very heartfelt and thoughtful gift. First, decorate a mason jar and attach a tag with a note. Find quotes, sayings, jokes or write personal stories and notes onto slips of paper and put them into the mason jar. Instruct the person receiving the gift to only read a slip of paper every week, morning or whichever time period that is decided upon.

Dad:

Some gift ideas for dad include the following: movie sets, a handmade tie and tools (for the garage, the grill or other). The terminator series, the Jurassic park movies, Indiana Jones, James Bond, John Wayne; one of these movie series together as a set would be a great gift. For the handmade tie idea, purchase a plain colored tie and decorate it, although dad might not wear it out of the house (depending on how crazily decorated the tie is) making/decorating a tie is perfect for a joke gift. A vacuum for the garage or a new power drill set is great for the handyman and a travel grill is a useful gift for avid campers.

Brother/Sister:

Depending on how old each sibling is, the gift options vary. Presents for younger kids are pretty easy to come up with, get them a doll or special toy, for a handmade gift, sew a stuffed animal or ragdoll. For older siblings, get them something that captures their interests. For a sister that is girlier, make or buy some makeup or clothes. A gift idea for an older brother who is a sports fan, get a jersey or a sports collectors item.

Friends:

For friends, buy tickets to a favorite band or make them a blanket or personalized jewelry. Depending how close you are to each friend, it is up to you on how far you wish to go with prices or effort. If your friend likes photography and has many photos that they want to hang up, get (or make) a picture clothesline, ikea sells them, these “clotheslines” are metal-like cords with hooks included to hang pictures with. A friendship album is also a great gift (but takes a lot of time), it is much more personal for a friend known for a long amount of time.
