15 artists to listen to in 2015

With the new year here, rising artists have been taking over the music scene. Here are 15 popular rising artists you don’t want to miss.

If you like All Time Low or Fall Out Boy…

  1. Jack White

With White’s third solo album and a new one suspected to come out this year, along with a spot on this years Coachella lineup,  White has a busy year ahead of him. Mixing classic and punk rock, with a bit of a country vibe, makes White an overall very versatile artist.

  1. Circa Survive

Circa Survive are the fraternal twin to Black Veil Brides; similar, but different. The Philadelphia- based band mixes rock with a tad of heavy metal music so loud if could make you deaf if you listen to it too loud. The band’s latest album ‘Descensus’ came out in 2014, and the band is rumored to be working in the studio on a new album.

  1. Darlia

Darlia’s music will make you nostalgic over the 90’s grunge/rock music scene. The trio from Blackpool, England blends together a sound from bands like Nirvana to the rock sound of Green Day; the filthy sound of the 90’s and the rumble of lyrics come together in a (partially) radio- friendly pack. The band’s EP (extended player), ‘Knock Knock’, came out in 2013, but due to some trouble with the record label, delayed the first real album. Now with their first single ‘Queen of Hearts’, the band is working on releasing their first album soon.

  1. Raury

Raury’s music makes for a perfect road trip playlist. With folk lyrics and amazing background vocals, all his tracks are sing-along worthy. Raury has been working on his album ‘Indigo Child’ and has released his first couple of songs, one of which include his single ‘God’s Whisper’. His songs debuted last March, but a new full- length album is set to come out sometime this year.   

  1. Rae Morris

Rae Morris’ music style is best described as Ed Sheeran’s female Doppelgänger. Her acoustic yet upbeat sound is perfect to have her song stuck in your head and find yourself singing along after a couple listens

  1. Hugo

Hugo’s music can take you back to a blues bar in Chicago, where soulful rhythm and tasteful lyrics make his music memorable. As a teenager, Hugo Levy released four studio albums, but he has released two albums under the stage name ‘Hugo’; one including his 2014 album ‘Deep in the Long Grass’. He remains on tour at the moment and hope to start recording again in March.

  1. Father John Misty

Father John Misty will make you want to break out your flower crown and go sit in a meadow with a guitar. Former drummer for Fleet Foxes, Mr. J. Tillman creates acoustic melodies and meaningful lyrics that are relatable to almost everyone, and the melody of the songs stay in your head hours after hearing the music.  Father John Misty’s latest album, ‘The History of Caves’, came out in 2013, but he remains on tour and writing music to release this year.

  1. Catfish and the Bottlemen

For a true movie moment song, Catfish and the Bottlemen is for you. Mixing an indie vibe with upbeat inspiration lyrics makes for truly catchy music. The Welsh band released their debut album ‘The Balcony’ near the end of last year, but started touring at the beginning of this year. The band is still recording music, and we can expect to hear more from them soon in the next year.

  1. Troye Sivan

This Australian synth-pop artist first started his career and fanbase as a famous YouTuber; and recently released an EP, ‘TRXYE’. His radio- friendly pop songs make him one of the most exciting artists this coming year. With his number one hit ‘Happy Little Pill’, Sivan continues writing music for Capitol records and intends to release a full- length album later this year.

  1. Cheerleader

A 70’s flashback redone. With a great pop- like feel to the band’s sound but verses very close to those of popular bands of the 70’s, Cheerleader is the perfect band for any person who likes Katy Perry or One Direction. The Philadelphia- based band released their EP ‘On Your Side’ in October of  last year, but we can expect to see more music from them in the years to come.

  1. Blood Diamonds

First starting by making heavenly remixes of hit songs by Charil XCX, Chvrches, Ellie Goulding and Kendrick Lamar, along with producing albums for Madonna and Grimes, frontman Mike Tucker is making a name for himself in the music business. He’s released over 13 singles in the past three years and has been on both new remixes and original music to release over the next few years.

  1. Bleachers

Bleachers frontman and former drummer for the band ‘Fun’, Jack Antonoff masters the perfect sound of 80’s pop, renovated. Bleachers’ number one hit ‘I Wanna Get Better’ fits perfectly into any 80’s movie soundtrack, but let’s be honest, all of his music fits well. Bleachers’ first album ‘Strange Desire’, features collaborations with both Yoko Ono and Grimes. It came out in July of last year, but we can definitely expect more from him this coming year.

  1. Tv on the Radio

After the death of former band member Gerard Smith, the group went a a hiatus as they worked on finding a replacement or working without one. They finally made their comeback in 2014 with their album ‘Seeds’. Combining EDM and pop to bring music with a deeper message, Tv on the Radio is sure to be busy for the next few years.

  1. George the Poet

With fast paced and inspirational lyrics, George the Poet uses his rhymes to tackle important social and political issues. with a Brit Award nomination for ‘Critic’s Choice’, George has been working on his new album to be released in December of this year. His EP ‘The Chicken And The Egg’ was released in September of 2014, and has been touring around England while writing music.

  1. Childish Gambino

Donald Glover (aka Childish Gambino) is a multi- talented man. a cast member on the hit show ‘Community’, successful stand up comedian and now a famous hip-hop artist, Childish Gambino takes the sound of artists from decades before, like Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, and Tupac, and mixes a reggae beat to an indie sound with hip- hop type lyrics. His latest album, STN MTN, came out it 2014, and recently announced a new mixtape to be released this summer.
