Mewtwo strikes back! And Lucas to, I guess…

The Super Smash Brothers franchise is a much-beloved fighting game licensed by Nintendo. The game is a longtime classic where famous (and a couple unknown) video game characters are warped into a world of pain and war to combat all the characters you’ve known and loved before. They’ve had a whole cast of characters, adding new ones and removing a few old ones.

Nintendo has now decided to go down the DLC route and add new characters to the game. And so, two beloved fighters return to the ring! Mewtwo, the Genetic Pokémon, and Lucas, from the game Mother Earth.

Mewtwo was a special character in the second Smash Bros game, Melee. He was unlocked by playing a certain amount of hours, as a sign of your gaming dedication. His gameplay hasn’t really changed since the last game he was in. Mewtwo is a really floaty character, with high gravity-defining jumps and an almost gliding fall. His move set consists of psychic attacks, tail whips, and a powerful new downward spike that can nail your foes off the screen.

The second returning fighter is Lucas, from the game Mother 3, which I don’t really know anything about. I do know, however, that Lucas is an almost-clone of another Mother character in SSB, Ness. Almost-clones are characters that are almost identical to another character from the same game franchise, with only minimal changes in their stats. But any slight difference in SSB can change the whole tide of battle, and Lucas was a popular character in the last SSB game he starred in, Brawl, the third game. His combat style uses a lot of baseball bats, magic element blasts and launching himself like a rocket using one of his own moves.

So there we are, the whole SSB family back together again! …Except Roy. No one liked Roy. (And the Ice Climbers, but the Ice Climbers had a unique two-character setup that would most likely break the Wii U on 8-player smash). But Nintendo doesn’t plan to end their DLCs there! Now you can vote online for the next DLC character to join the smash! Some characters cannot enter the game due to them being a summon of a special item, though there is an attempt to get non-Nintendo characters into SSB4. Great things wait in the future! Until then, happy smashing!
