Top five films of the summer

Top five films of the summer

Another summer has passed, and with every summer comes the biggest blockbusters of the year. This summer brought many more cinematic hits, as well as some box office poison. Most people want to forget some of the movies which were a complete let down, and instead remember the films that greatly impacted its audience and made a mark on blockbuster history. So, I have gathered some of the best summer films of 2015.

  1. Minions

The highly anticipated family animated film delivered this summer with the return of the iconic Minions from the Despicable Me movies. This film puts the spotlight on the little yellow creatures and tells the story on how needed to find the most evil master to serve. This movie was a comical and adventurous film that both kids and adults enjoyed. But of course, since this film is 5th on the list, it has its flaws. Minions seemed to focus more on the comedy aspect and not the family hearted story that the other two films were cherished for. I think the film would have been better if it was Despicable Me 3, and had family centered story instead of the mischievous adventure the three main minions. But I am not complaining, I still found the journey of these minions quite amusing, but I think most would prefer the style of the first two movies.

  1. Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation

Another year has come, which means a new mission impossible. This year its the franchise is even more suspenseful and filled with action. Tom Cruise returns as the main character who needs to stop a terrorist group of operatives who were confirmed dead, but are actually alive and causing terror around the globe. This thriller is the fifth instalment of the series and is one of its bests. Along with its heartstopping moments of undercover missions, it has some great unexpected twists as well. My only concerns with the movie is that the characters personalities were switched. One point of the movie this character could be trusting towards another character and then a few scenes later they could be teaming with someone else. Although it made sense towards the end, in the moment, these switches made little to no sense at all to the plot. But otherwise, this movie was really good, and one of the best of the five.

  1. Inside Out

Pixar’s summer animation film this year has to be one of the most clever ideas in a while. Inside Out is a family animated film about the a young girl and her 5 emotions who control her. Each emotion is its own character with its own personality based on the emotion it is representing. This great idea has to follow up with a great plot as such an idea would be hard to pull of a good story. This movie did though, covering both the happy and emotional aspects of growing up. Most critics claim this is one of the best pixar films ever, but I do not really agree. I do agree it is a great Pixar film, but it is not one of the best. The writers did pull of a viable plot to go along with a tricky concept, but the story was not the best of the best. Most of the witty parts of the film were targeted at adults who understand emotion a bit more, so the most kids could not understand the emotional seriousness and messages of the movie. Along with its great ideas came some funny moments that we can all relate to like talking to yourself in your mind and having a song stuck in your head. It is another great Disney animation which I believe that most fans will want to see again.

  1. Avengers: Age of Ultron

Avengers was one of Marvel’s greatest movies, so when the fans heard the announcement of the sequel, everyone was happy. Come summer of 2015 and Avengers Age of Ultron hit theaters. This great follow up was had fans amazed with its stellar  plot that continued from the last, and the awesome new heroes that teamed up with the Avengers as they have to stop an artificial intelligence created by Ironman and the Hulk. This film introduced 3 new heroes that fans loved, as well as returning all the members of the avengers for a new fight for the safety of our world. The movie had great fighting scenes of great proportion, jaw dropping moments of surprise, and light moments of humor. There was not that many flaws with the film, except a few of the fight scenes dragged out too long and in my opinion, the new hero, Ultron, may have been loved by fans, but I found not to have much of a special personality. I definitely recommend this film to superhero film lovers.

  1. Jurassic World

After many years of water, the Hollywood blockbuster that that captured the hearts of many, and gave much acclaimed fame to director Steven Spielberg has returned with Jurassic World. The dinosaurs of the park return many years later after the events of Jurassic Park in a new modern day theme park open to the public. This park is in for deadly events as the park CEO decides to make a hybrid dinosaur that escapes captivity and goes on a rampage through Jurassic World, killing humans and other dinosaurs. The main character, played by Chris Pratt, is a trainer at the park, and must stop this monstrous dinosaur. By far the biggest improvement from the last films is the CGI. The dinos of the movie look more real and scary than ever before, creating more suspenseful and chilling scenes. A new feature this film has to offer is the companionship between the main character and his 3 raptors. This brings more action as the long waited request of humans teaming up with dinosaurs have finally been granted. My only problem with the movie is the ended. It was a great ending, and it suggested a sequel, but what will the sequel be? There was no further information to finish the film, or any other problem that could appear in another film in the future. But we just have to wait and see what the director can do.
