AMAs anticipation

With the end of 2015 approaching rapidly, the American Music Awards are coming soon to recognize the artists that have had a positive impact on the music industry this year.

Joe Jonas and Charlie Puth announced the 2015 nominees on October 13 enabling viewers to vote for their favorite artists, songs or albums.

The AMAs will be held on November 22 on ABC and will be hosted by Jennifer Lopez. Leading the nominations, with six, is country/pop legend Taylor Swift, followed closely behind by singer/songwriter Ed Sheeran and new artist The Weeknd, both with five nominations.

Swift has previously won 16 AMAs and is on track for several more. She was nominated not only for Artist of the Year, Favorite Adult Contemporary Female Artist and Favorite Pop-Rock Female Artist, but also for her song Blank Space, her collaboration on Bad Blood with Kendrick Lamar and her hit album 1989.

Also in the lead as far as nominations are Sam Hunt, Nicki Minaj, Sam Smith, Meghan Trainor and Walk the Moon, each with three nominations.

However, there is still plenty of competition for each of the 22 categories ranging from Favorite Pop/Rock Album to Top Soundtrack. While there are several familiar names leading the charts in nominations and in iTunes, such as Swift and Sheeran, there is also some new talent nominated for New Artist of the Year: Fetty Wap, Sam Hunt, Tove Lo, Walk the Moon and the Weeknd.

Performers for the AMAs have not been announced yet, but it has been revealed that Jennifer Lopez will be performing as well as hosting.

Viewers who have not already voted for the AMAs should do so soon. Voting for an artist, song or album is very simple: either Tweet, post on Facebook or vote on theamas.com through Facebook or Twitter. On Twitter, the name of the artist, the award, and #AMAs must be included in the Tweet. For Facebook, the name of the artist and the corresponding hashtag for the award (found on theamas.com) need to be in the post in order for the vote to count. Voters are limited to one vote per day per category.
