Underrated classes to take next year

With the new semester off to a start, freshman, sophomores and juniors are all trying to decide what classes to register for next year. While four places are usually filled with the core classes, there are still two electives each year for every student.

 

Since the handbook is lengthy and time consuming to read, here is a list of underrated classes that students of all grades might consider taking:

 

  1. Multimedia Technology/Advanced Multimedia: These classes are each one semester long and the first is the prerequisite for the other. Anyone interested in computers, photo-editing, and web design would enjoy both courses. Additionally, Advanced Multimedia is an honors credit.

 

  1. Introduction to Public Speaking and Debate/Public Speaking: Each of these semester long courses will help with speaking skills and confidence in front of an audience. This classes might interest those who are considering joining Desert Vista Speech and Debate, or even anyone who simply wants to learn more about speech and debate.

 

  1. Art and Design: This is a yearlong class dedicated solely to helping students improve their artwork. Students will learn about color theory, drawing and painting techniques, and will make many projects throughout the year.

 

  1. AP Music Theory: This is a rigorous, yearlong class, but students who have a background in music and want to learn more about music theory should consider this class, especially if they want to pursue a career in music. Students will learn about melody, harmony, rhythm and much more. Also, students will have the option to take the AP test at the end of the year.

5. Honors Computer Programming 1-2: Anyone who is enrolled in Honors Geometry or who has completely Geometry has the opportunity to take this yearlong course and learn more about computer programming. Also, students can enroll in the corresponding college course to receive college credit through Rio Salado.
