Platten’s Wildfire has beautiful sound, cliche songs

Rachel Platten’s new album, Wildfire, was released on New Year’s Day. Platten’s hit anthem, Fight Song, has been all over the radio since its release as a single and now is accompanied by 11 more songs on Wildfire.
Platten has an amazing voice, but her songs are simply 12 conventional pop songs, like nearly everything else on the radio. Fight Song has a very memorable tune and inspiring lyrics, but ultimately, Wildfire seems to be lacking originality.
Platten sings with passion and emotion, especially in Fight Song, Angels in Chelsea, and Superman. Her powerful voice makes her songs inspiring and moving.
The first track, titled Stand By You, is a love song about commitment through the good times and the bad. Another track, Congratulations, is quite the opposite, as Platten sings about a breakup. There is plenty of variety in Wildfire, making at least one of the songs relatable to everyone.
The beautiful sound in Wildfire is dampened slightly by the cliche ideas and songs that have been seen before in plenty of other top 40 pop songs. But overall, the album will certainly be enjoyable for Platten’s fans.
Listeners who are looking for catchy, stereotypical love songs can stop here. But listeners who want songs with a little more substance should keep looking. Platten’s beautiful voice makes for easy listening, but the tracks on Wildfire have certainly been sung before.
