The Mummy was the first installment of a trio of movies starring Brendan Fraser as Rick O’Connell, an American previously serving in Egypt. O’Connell is jailed and saved from execution by a British archeologist, Evelyn (Rachel Weisz) and her brother Jonathan (John Hannah) who are looking for the lost city of Hamunaptra.
The three eventually awaken a cursed mummy, Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) whose main goal is to awaken his dead lover, Anck Su Namun (also a mummy). This proves to be a very troublesome ordeal for the trio as Imhotep plans to use Evelyn’s body as a sacrifice to bring back Anck Su Namun.
Just recently, the talk of making a Mummy remake was confirmed. Alex Kurtzman is directing and Tom Cruise is starring as an ex-Navy Seal who stumbles upon a tomb, and the mummy, female this time, is set to be played by Sofia Boutella (also starring in Kingsman).
The story takes place in modern day time and is one of the many new remakes in Universal Studios new monster universe series, the plan is to bring back their classic monsters such as, Dracula, Frankenstein, the Invisible Man, and the Bride of Frankenstein.
The current release date is to be set on June 9, 2017. Until the movie premiers, fans of the classic Mummy movie can only hope that this reboot will be as good as the original.
