Upcoming 2015-2016 Student Council Elections
Without the Desert Vista Student council, many functions and events we students enjoy wouldn’t happen. And now, the elections for the 2015-2016 student council are coming up.
Each student council class is made up of five students; a President, a Vice-President, a Secretary, a Treasurer and a Spirit Director. There are five different student bodies, one for each grade and an executive council that oversees the other four. The duties of the class officers and the student body officers are mostly similar, but there are differences.
“Each class has its own president, secretary, vice president, treasurer, spirit director; then there are the five that represent all of the student council” said program co-advisor, Mr. Miguel Marrero.
The President must preside over student council meetings and is considered the official representative of the class when required. The Vice-President takes the place of the President when the President is absent or has been removed. The Secretary is responsible for keeping student council meeting records and coordinating student council projects. The Treasurer maintains the student council funds, and the Spirit Director assists with events, such as Homecoming and Spirit Weeks.
In order to become a student body officer (a member of the executive council), you must have been a class officer the year previous and a junior or senior.
The elections for the student body are March 26, and the class elections are April 23. Freshman class elections, however, take place a month after a new school year.
Without Student Council, we would not have all the fun and awesome activities we enjoy all year long.
