Choir Pops Concert
Desert Vista’s fourth and final choir concert will be the Pops concert, held on May 2nd in the Joe McDonald auditorium. The time is still to be announced but it will most likely be in the evening. There may be an open dress rehearsal on May 1st, that students can come to and listen to the choirs sing, though it won’t be an actual concert. This open dress rehearsal idea is still up in the air.
The theme for the pops concert is Broadway, so all the choirs will be singing songs from musicals that have been performed on Broadway. There will be some light choreography that the performers will be doing along with singing. This concert is different from previous choir concerts in the sense that there will be solo numbers in between group songs.
When asked what is favorite part of choir was, freshman Aidan Strelnik said “Singing. You can’t explain it unless you’ve sang yourself.”
Choir students work on two main things, their vocals- so tone quality and sound- and sight reading. Sight reading is looking at a piece of music and being able to accurately sing the pitches. All of the choirs at Desert Vista will be performing. These choirs are Bella Voce (1-2), Cantiramouse (3-4), Vox (5-6), Jazz Madrigal (7-8) and Acapella (9-10).
Bella Voce is the all girls beginning level choir. Almost every freshman girl goes into this choir so it is a large class, holding more than sixty girls this year. Cantiramouse is a mixed choir, so after Bella Voce, the girls move into this choir whereas all freshman boys are automatically placed in this choir. Choir 5-6 is Vox, another all girls choir. Jazz Madrigal is the next mixed choir, the second highest choir to be in. The highest is, acapella. The students in this class each get a microphone in concerts and there are only around twenty of them total.
