Spread The Word
Spread The Word was an event that took place on March 1st during both lunch periods on the Desert Vista campus. The event was brought to DV students by the Desert Vista Thunder Buddies. The purpose of this event was to stop using the R word.
During both lunch periods students will have the opportunity to hear personal stories from some of the club members. Students also have the chance to take a pledge to stop using the R word. Students can also take this pledge online by visiting www.r-word.org.
The Spread The Word event is a great way to help prevent students from using the R word. The event showed how mean, rude, and cruel it is to use that word. The R word is a word no one should ever use in any kind of situation. It is a hateful word that should never be used when approaching someone. It can bring someones self esteem down in a second by being called something that they are not. Which is why the event was a great way to stop using the word. Some don’t know how much pain can be caused to someone by using just one word.
The Thunder Buddies club president tells us why students at DV should participate in the even.
“The event is for a really good cause. The R word is not a kind word to use so we should all help to prevent others from using the word,” Says Tyler Gebhart, a senior from DV.
“Students will feel more better about themselves by knowing that they participated for a good cause,” Says Jessica Ives, a sophomore at DV and Thunder Buddies club treasure. Ives tells how students will feel after participating in the event.
By listening to the personal stories from some of the club members, will give a better understanding in why we shouldn’t use the R word. Their stories will prove how using one word can have a strong impact on others.
