Graphene could possibly harvest energy from thin air

Graphene is a material made of perfectly arranged carbon atoms, and can be as small as a molecule thick, and is twenty times stronger than steel. In a study published in the Nature Journal, researchers found graphene particles could filter hydrogen from the air using its small crystals. This with further research, could be used to make electric generators that use air.

“It looks extremely simple and equally promising,” said Dr. Sheng Hu, a researcher in the project. “Because graphene can be produced these days in square metre sheets, we hope that it will find its way to commercial fuel cells sooner rather than later.” Since hydrogen is now obtained through fossil fuels, this could majorly cut down on fossil fuel consumption, and could help reduce humanity’s dependence on things like coal and oil.
