How to avoid being sleepy in class

Many, if not most, students today tend to not focus well during class. Some reasons may be that you are tired because of extra curricular classes, sports, doing homework that’s due the night before, extra work to be done outside of school. You may get bored and end up doodling, sketching, daydreaming or even falling asleep. These techniques should empower you to stay focused and improve your work styles.

You need to sit properly. Sitting properly will make you blood circulate and will relax you, which will not make you feel sleepy. Straighten your back, position your feet on the ground and place your hands on the table. This avoids you from getting sleepy since it’s not the most comfortable position to sit in.

It may sound weird but taking notes in class even if you are not required to can keep you active in the learning process and can keep you from getting bored or sleepy. One of the main reasons you are falling asleep is because you are not tuned into what your teacher is saying. Just jotting down main points and ideas is a way to stay engaged in what you’re learning.

Do your homework the day your teachers assign them. Procrastinating only adds more work to be done which leads to going to bed late and not getting the full 8 hours of sleep that is recommended. Exercising, such as jogging, running or simply stretching in the morning before going to school can make your body more attentive and helps the blood circulate throughout your body.
