Paul Blart 2, the unnecessary sequel

Paul Blart 2, the unnecessary sequel

Of all the summer movies this year, there was a lot of box office poison that plagued the theaters, one of them being Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. This is the sequel to the not-so-great Paul Blart: Mall Cop. The first film was not that exciting and got terrible reviews all around. So the grand question is: Why make another one? This is another selfish move by Hollywood producers who trick kids into movies with no value, and distract them with cheap slapstick.

The second film is no different from the first. The main character, Paul Blart, is the hero no one expects to save the day. Pretty much the same concept as the last movie, and pretty much the same plot. Everyone thinks Blart is a lowlife loser, until the random terrorist group shows up stealing valuable things from whatever place the movie is set in. Like the last movie, Blart is able to defeat these “villains” with cheap humor and cliche bad guy dullness.

But what makes these two very similar movies terrible? Most would say it is the bad humor with the lazily-written plot, and I would have to agree. Nowadays, most movie and tv show producers/directors think that since they are advertising towards children, they can get away with poor writing because, “Hey, it’s just kids who are watching; they will laugh at anything.” This is the worst thing people can do with this career of entertainment, and as long as they can make money off it, they will keep doing it.

The last thing I have to say about the movie is about the main actor, Kevin James. Lately, his career has been going down a steep slope as he has appeared in many low-quality movies. Another film that came out this summer with him was Pixels, which was not that good either. I would not be surprised if the rest of his acting career is him playing some poor-written role in some awful movie.

I do not recommend Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 to anyone. It is a film that will waste your time and not be worth watching. I also suggest you look out for other movies like this that are poorly done and hide as innocent family flicks. I find family movies heartwarming, so I don’t like seeing movies like this that give the genre a bad name.
