The Steam Machine

A new console has been announced by Valve Corporation, known as the Steam Machine, it will feature the program Steam. This program contains thousands of games which millions of people play every day.

Since November 10th, the units are available to be bought from various manufacturers. Prices will range from four hundred to six thousand dollars, depending on what quality hardware is in stock at the time.

Valve has originally planned to release this console in 2014, but for unknown reasons decided to wait until now.

Though it runs mainly Linux, Microsoft Windows can be installed if the users decide they want to. When bought the system will come with minimum requirements on hardware, but buyers can get new equipment to upgrade the quality of the console.

Manufactures include  Alienware, Falcon Northwest, CyberPowerPC, Origin PC, Gigabyte, Materiel.net, Webhallen, Alternate, Next, Zotac, Scan Computers and Maingear have all created their versions of the console. All companies except Maingear have demonstrated their version at the 2014 CES show.

The program downloaded onto every Steam Machine known as steam is a gaming program. Users can buy different games on the program and if they switch to another computer they can log in and use the games they already bought for no extra cost.

Another key feature Valve has shown off is the ability to switch between a normal PC and the Steam program. Anyone using the Steam Machine can use it like a normal computer, doing work or browsing the internet won’t be a problem.

Also announced with the console is a controller. A 50 dollar controller will be separately sold which will work with almost every game that can be bought on steam.

The console will also soon be sold in Gamestop with its own section after a negotiation between the two took place. With Valve entering the console market Microsoft and Sony will definitely be doing something to turn the tables.
