Friends in Class

Having a friend next to you in class may be distracting but it is also very beneficial. 78% of people on debate.org say that sitting next to friends in class is very helpful and convienent.

“We feel more comfortable asking questions…If you are like me then you are too shy to ask for help. I would fall behind in work but my friend would always help me get back on track. I always feel uncomfortable asking for help but since I used to sit by my friend, I would just ask her and we would figure the problem out together,” said Neko Shizum from debate.org.

Having friends sitting next to each other can cause distractions and some work may not always be completely done, but the students always have someone close to them that they are comfortable with asking for help on work. Chatter from students may cause distractions for other students, but teachers can set rules about when students can talk and noise level expectations.

“Sitting next to friends in class is super helpful, especially when I am confused about something. All I have to do is turn next to me and whisper asking for my friend to explain. If my friend can’t explain it to me he/she being next to me gives me the extra confidence to raise my hand and ask the teacher,” said Desert Vista Junior, Cameron Diamond.

Even though friends talk in class teachers can make sure conversations take place only at appropriate times and are on topic discussions. Good friends will be sure to keep each other on task and focused on their class work. In most cases students who sit next to each other in class are likely to study together which will improve grades for both students.
