Student Spotlight: Bonding with Brynn

Student+Spotlight%3A+Bonding+with+Brynn

Meet Brynn Pickavance, a 14-year-old Freshman at Desert Vista High School. Brynn is an incredible person both in and out of school. One thing many people may not know about her is that she is a very athletic person. One of her favorite sports is volleyball, which she has done for several years.

“Volleyball became a close thing to me, because it was something new and exciting and none of my family members ever did it,” said Brynn.  “Unlike tennis, my mom was a tennis player. So I think that’s why it was it was volleyball was like, new, and I just wanted to try it out.And I like loved it when I first started it. All the tournaments that we do, like the festivals that happen there’s probably three that happen every year in Colorado, Las Vegas, and then one in downtown Phoenix.

“But those are always really fun because it’s a good like, team bonding experience and we just have a lot of fun overall,” said Pickavance.

Her love for volleyball has always followed her wherever she goes. For most of her life, she has had to move away from multiple of her friends and family, and that has not always been easy.

“I think the most difficult thing has been saying bye to my friends and then some of my family because in Washington, we lived really close to my grandparents. But mostly just my friends, because I don’t keep in touch with a lot of them now, but that’s really it,” she said.

Even after going through difficult times in her life, she has proven to be strong to endure them. Brynn can serve as an example for others to be perseverant, even at times when life seems to be going downhill. Here is her advice for others who are in the process of moving and leaving their friends and family behind.

“Honestly, it’s not gonna be like a goodbye forever,” she said. “If you think about it, it’ll just be like, oh, like, I’ll see you eventually again. So I think you just need to have that mindset. And that your life like isn’t over because I think that’s what some people think when they’re moving. But you just kind of go into your new state with like, a positive attitude. And like, ‘Oh, I’m gonna have lots of fun, I’m gonna make new friends.’ So just kind of be like positive about it.”

You should get to know her this semester!
