Nicholas Mesa, a 16-year-old high school student who fights the temptation of playing video games for hours. When asked how he does it, he said, “The first strategy I used was to hide the console. But that was a short-term solution.”

Realizing that this solution won’t last long, Nico realizes that he must occupy his time better.

“With other activities like going outside and completing homework. And that’s how I’ve been staying off the game,” Nico said,

Though, Nico stops himself from playing games for hours. It doesn’t mean that he won’t play games at all.

“I have many years of those games. Two K’s probably my number one because I also like to play basketball,” stated Nico.

“Okay, for a long time I used to spend four or five-plus hours playing. I realized how bad it was for me so now I try to keep it under an hour, maybe 45 minutes,” he said.

Nico avoids spending time in the virtual world for that is less time to spend with friends and family in the real world.

“I try my hardest not to play at all because the games are very addictive and very time consuming, very distracting,” Nico said, “So yeah, I try to keep it pretty limited.”
