Student council elections are held every year in April, this year on the 23rd, to determine the next year’s school leaders.

Voters here at DV love that they get the freedom to choose who makes the decisions that affect them and their learning environment.

“I personally always look forward to voting because everybody’s vote counts,” said freshman Camden Six.

2015 voting has been made much easier this year with the implementation of the electronic ballot counter, and it has made a great deal of difference.

“This year’s voting has been so efficient and it’s been running really smooth,” said junior Nina Patel.

The ballots this year are the same type that adults use to vote for something as important as the presidency.

“I think it’s really important that we are practicing how we are going to be voting in the future because, later on, the votes will be more important,” said junior and current spirit director Kelsey Fisher.

Everything about the voting atmosphere this year has a simulation of what voting will be like in the actual world, and Desert Vista is preparing their students for the real world.

“It’s really smart of DV to have us vote like this; it makes me feel ready for voting in the real world,” said freshman Sierra Gomez.
