Donald Trump contradicts his own immigration plan

Donald Trump, millionaire and presidential candidate of the Republican party for 2016, contradicted his own racist policy on immigration Tuesday,  August 18. He tweeted that he was okay with foreigners attending college, and would allow them to stay in the country. Even though this contradicts a section of his immigration plan, that blames a rising number of foreign workers” for keeping salaries from growing, keeping unemployment high and making it difficult for working class Americans to earn a decent wage.Trump has made no comment of the contradictory nature of his words thus far.

Trumps exact words were, “When foreigners attend our great colleges and want to stay in the U.S., they should not be thrown out of our country, I want talented people to come into this country — to work hard and become citizens. Silicon Valley needs engineers, etc.”

Donald Trump is currently the leading Republican candidate, apparently popular because of his reform on immigration. This plan would throw out all illegal immigrants with extreme prejudice and construct a “Great Wall” between America and Mexico. In addition, it would end birthright citizenship of any children of foreigners born on American soil. It also  has a secondary point of improving jobs and job security, revolving around the point that immigrants are stealing jobs that poor Americans need to earn a middle-class wage.

According to the written details on Donald Trump’s official website, “For many years, Mexico’s leaders have been taking advantage of the United States by using illegal immigration to export the crime and poverty in their own country (as well as in other Latin American countries). They have even published pamphlets on how to illegally immigrate to the United States.”

His tweet also mentioned college-graduated foreigners being hired by Silicon Valley (a name for the southern portion of the San Francisco Bay Area that is known for many high-tech corporations), even though his H-1B reform plan would make it harder for foreigners to receive jobs in positions of science, technology, etc. This plan refers to H-1B visas, which companies use to hire foreigners, by raising the salary threshold for those visas and requiring employers to first hire Americans before considering foreign hires. This creates another contradiction of his words on the 18th and his immigration plan. This being the fact without H-1B visas, companies in Silicon Valley couldn’t hire foreign workers as Trump suggested.
“We’re going to do (the deportation of immigrants) in a very humane fashion. Believe me. I have a bigger heart than you do. We’re going to do it in a very humane fashion… You know what it’s called? Management … I’m a great manager. I know how to manage things. I hire unbelievable people. What we’re doing here will work great… Once I win, you’re gonna see things happen,” said Trump to hispanic journalist Jorge Ramos during an interview according to an article on The Guardian, a news site.
