Airstrike kills key al-Qaeda leader

The Pentagon released a statement claiming they had conducted an airstrike October 15 in northeast Syria that killed al-Qaeda’s highest ranking member.

The death of Abdul Mohsen Adballah Ibrahim al Charekh, better known as Sanfi al-Nasr, is considered to be a “significant blow” to the terrorist organization. He was a crucial tool for the group in handling their finances. He as well was head strategist of the Khorassan.

The strike was part of the United State’s attempts to “degrade, disrupt, and destroy al-Qaeda and its remnants” and so far has been successful in recent months.

“Al-Nasr is the fifth senior Khorasan Group leader killed in the last four months” the Pentagon says in the statement.

The Khorassan, a subgroup of al-Qaeda, consists of senior members based in Syria that the American public was first made aware of in September of last year when the government deemed them to be just as big of a threat as ISIS to the U.S. and other countries of the west.
