Fraud rates seen to go up during the holidays

The holiday season is almost here, and according to a study done by ACI Worldwide, that means fraud rates for online purchases are higher than ever.

This research shows that fraud is increasing faster and faster, even with the new technology to help. Of all the transactions that don’t require swiping a card, one out of every 86 are a fraudulent attempt. In 2014, that number was one in every 114. Fraud attempts have increased 30 percent this year as shoppers shop more online and less at the store.

ACI’s data is based on hundreds of millions of transactions from January to July 2015, and the same times in 2014.
