An emergence in the case of the “Canal Killer”

Nearly 44 years later, Phoenix police believe they have caught the serial killer responsible for the death of two women in the early 80’s.

September 1973, a young woman was found dead in the Arizona Canal near Interstate 17. Ten months earlier, the head of a 22-year-old woman was found floating in that same canal shortly after the body was found in a nearby park.

Both women took their bikes for a ride and had never came back. They were both stabbed and their bikes were both missing. After waiting a few months, police acknowledged the the connection and told the public they were most certain it was one man that killed both women.

The case went cold but that changed Tuesday, Nov 17 when police arrested Bryan Patrick Miller at his home in which he lives with his teen daughter.

Police are saying DNA evidence, which was not available at the time, is responsible for connecting the killings to Miller but are not saying how exactly they made the connection. However, a rusty bike was carried off the property by officials.

Miller is being held for two counts of murder but police are looking for evidence to link him to other crimes.
