Outstanding Young Man/Young Woman’s award

It is now time to start signing up for the Outstanding Young Man/Young Woman’s award, which recognizes and celebrates the effort of high school students as well a specified teacher that they look up to or have acted as a mentor. The deadline is Feb. 26th, 2016, and students are to able self-nominate. A total of 16 finalists from each district will be chosen, with 2 being chosen as the overall winners.

 

Once chosen as a finalist, the student will be be interviewed. After one female and one male is selected from each district, they receive a reward of $500 dollars, and if they are selected as a citywide finalist, they will receive another $500. Not only is there a money reward, but they will  also be given the chance to appear and participate at programs and advocate for social issues.

 

The requirements in order to be eligible are:

 

  1. Must currently be a high school student (or home-schooled) in grades 9 through 12
  2. Live within Phoenix city limits
  3. Be a U.S. citizen or provide evidence that he or she is a permanent resident of the United States
  4. Complete and submit a scholarship application online and send required supporting documentation to the Review Committee within the provided deadline

 

In order to apply, the individual must fill out the Affidavit of Lawful Presence, as well as have a mentor or a teacher fill out of a form of recommendation.
