Baby girl shot while lying in her crib

Hundreds of people in Compton, CA attended the vigil of a baby who was struck in the face by a bullet from shooter while laying in her crib Tuesday Feb. 9.

1-year-old Autumn Johnson was waiting for her bottle when around 10-12 shots were heard outside of the house. A single stray bullet struck her in her face.

Autumn’s father, 24-year-old Darrell Johnson was seen running out of her family’s house cradling his baby sobbing and screaming “My baby’s been shot”.

Johnson and his baby girl were taken to the hospital where she later died from the head wound. Autumn died just one week after her first birthday.

The shots are believed to have been intended for Darrell Johnson who has admitted to be a member of a gang according to investigators.

A man was seen getting out of a car and shooting into the family’s garage The Los Angeles Sheriff Department said.

“I stand here before you, deeply saddened. Last night in our community, an unspeakable tragedy occurred that no parent of any family should ever have to endure. My heart goes out to the family of 1-year-old Autumn Johnson.” Compton’s mayor Aja Brown said in a conference the following day.

The community is moved baby baby Autumn’s death and has been motivated to bring an end to gang violence in the city. The day after her funeral hundreds of people attended the “Save our Children” an anti-violence march and rally in honor of her organized by Compton’s Gang Prevention and Intervention Program.

There is currently a $7500 for information leading to the arrest of the shooters.
