Man kills family and sets home on fire

A community is in mourning after a family of five was killed under tragic circumstances in their Phoenix home Tuesday Feb 3.

26-year-old Alex Buckner shot and killed his parents, his two sisters as well as set the house on fire according to Phoenix police.

Tuesday morning, police received a call from one of the family members trapped inside of the home.

Upon arriving at the scene, police heard gunshots from inside the burning home and saw members of the family trying to get the officer’s attention at an upstairs window.

After responders got the fire out, police searched throughout the home and found Alex in one of the rooms who had his gun pointed at them.  Alex was shot and killed.

Once Alex was shot the fire re-ignited and the responders got out of the house along with his body just in time.

Alex’s parents, Vic and Kim Buckner, were both found dead in an upstairs bedroom. His sister, 18-year-old Kaitlin Buckner who was found in a downstairs closet and the youngest, 8-year-old Emma who was found in another bedroom in the home were both rushed to the hospital. Both died from their injuries.

Kim’s sister Mindy Miller told AZ Central “He’s not a bad person, and we forgive him” and went on to say he was diagnosed with schizophrenia which she blames for the events for his actions.

Other relatives of the family have stated they feel the same about the tragedy and that they too forgive Alex.

“This morning our city witnessed an unspeakable domestic-violence tragedy in Northwest Phoenix, one marked by incredible heroism on the part of our Police and Fire first responders” read a Facebook post by Mayor Greg Stanton in regards to the heroism performed during the events.

The family will be dearly missed by friends and family.
