Can no impact make an impact?

Desert Vista’s yoga club held a “no impact” spirit week Monday, November 14 through Friday,

November 18th. The week was kicked off with food day Monday, followed by recycle day, transportation day, animal conservation day, then Friday was positive vibes day. The week’s purpose was to spread awareness about saving the planet.

“No Impact Week is an annual celebration of sustainability education,” says Ms. Goe, the yoga teacher.  “Our goal is to help our community understand what is happening to our planet due to our poor choices, and simple ways we can work to help heal it. We have a spirit week as well as a challenge of the day, and work to encourage students and staff to want to learn what they can do to be a better citizen of the Earth by promoting the week and giving away prizes.”

On social media, the club posted daily contests and facts to keep students interested and informed. Each day a winner won cool earth friendly prizes. Yoga classes went more into depth each day about why we held no impact week and what we are doing to our planet.

“Some of the videos we watched really affected me” freshman Bayleigh Haferbier said “I never really realized how much on affect i have on this planet. After no impact week i feel changed and more aware. I really want to save the planet and make a difference.”

No impact week was a success. It impacted the life of students and teachers campus wide about their decisions . Desert Vista will become a more green and earth friendly place because of it.

“I am beyond passionate about the health of our environment and wildlife. As humans, I believe we have a responsibility and honor to protect this Earth and it’s creatures” says Goe.
