Evit or Quit?

On Tuesday, January 31, 2017 there was an EVIT presentation for DV students that were considering doing EVIT in their junior year. EVIT is a spectacular opportunity at the East Valley Institute of Technology, where students take programs and are provided with advanced skills and training in a career field you are interested in. EVIT allows students to earn elective credit in more than 40 occupation-specific programs. They are tuition-free to high school students who live in 10 east valley school districts, the districts included are as followed– mesa, scottsdale, fountain hills, tempe, apache junction, chandler, gilbert, higley, queen creek, and JO combs. The students spend half a day at EVIT and the other half of the day at their high school. Charter schools and students that are home schooled may participate in this opportunity as well. Now, this program may be open only for juniors, but they encourage freshman to start thinking about whether or not they wish to join.

“It sounds like a fun/interesting program that would be a good way to get experience in a particular career and it seems like a great opportunity. I am definitely interested in doing EVIT as a junior.” says freshman John Perkins.

Although EVIT can be very educational and informative on certain careers that students may be interested in doing in the future, some students are a little skeptical on actually going and being a part of the EVIT program. Mainly because they don’t know that much about the program which is why there are presentations every year about EVIT that are open for all grades to attend to. There are students who don’t want to join EVIT because they have other priorities such as sports or other extra curricular activities.
“I would join the EVIT program, but I don’t know much about it. And I feel like even if I did I would not wish to join only because I feel like student council is my main priority and will take up a lot of my time.” says Karly Makay, freshman class spirit director.
