Soon to be freshman get a sneak peek of high school

On Monday, January 30, Desert Vista was packed with eighth grade students and families for the 8th grade orientation. Students from Akimel A-al, Altadena, and many other different middle schools got to learn about Desert Vista

“I am really excited to start high school,” Akimel A-al eighth grader Erin Hansen said. “ My sister went to Desert Vista and has told me all about how fun high school is. I really want to try out for the cheer team.”

Orientation starts off in the auditorium with counselors talking about the school, the middle school to high school transition, and what parents need to know about registration. Then families packed into the gyms to listen to different teachers and students talk about our school.

Student body President Johanna Crowl and freshman class president Morgan Kelly both gave speeches about high school and their experiences. Then the soon-to-be freshman go get to talk to some teachers, coaches, and club leaders about different activities around campus.

“ I am really nervous about starting high school,” Akimel A-al student Laney Lohman said.

“ Walking around tonight and listening to the teachers talk did help calm my nerves.”

Starting high school is a scary and stressful thing for most eighth graders. Orientation night helps make things just a little bit easier for them. It can also help students get an idea on what they want classes they want to take and meet some new people.
“Desert Vista seems like a really fun school and I’m excited to start,” Hansen said
