AZMERIT Testing

Through March and April, students at Desert Vista High School have been studying for Arizona Merit standardized tests. AZMERIT stands for Arizona’s Measurement of Educational Readiness to Inform Teaching. It is a standardized test to measure how students are performing in math, reading, and writing. The Spring testing is from March 27-May 4 state-wide. Students in Arizona who attend public schools or charter schools in third grade through high school take AZMERIT in reading, writing, and math every spring. In high school testing, there are more courses such as Biology. AZMERIT is taken at the end of courses, just like any final exam..

“AZMERIT is a nice way i can get feedback for myself in my classes without having to worry about passing or not,” said Tyler Ruan. “It helps motivate me to study more to do well in my classes as well.”

AZMERIT test results provide students with feedback about how they are doing academically and if they are prepared for the next year and for college and career. Students should take advantage of the test as an opportunity to check up on themselves and their progress in school. AZMERIT is a good way to help students get an idea of their progress because it does not affect passing classes or graduating.

“I would like to see improvement on my skills each year”, said Nathan Zhang. “It’s boring, but a good way to check in on myself and how I’m doing in school.”
