Women sports need more support from students

In high schools, across the world, women sports do not get the respect and support as much as the men sports do.

For example, attendance, ticket sales and crowd support can often be half as much as men’s basketball compared to women’s basketball. At our school, Desert Vista, it is clearly obvious that the student body supports men’s basketball more than women’s basketball.

Talking to players about whether they think men’s basketball get more support than women’s basketball gives new thoughts. They agreed by saying that they do believe that men’s basketball gets more support than the girls do. “I think girls don’t get as much support as we should, but that’s just how it is for some reason,” said Jayden Hunley.

They feel like they should get just the same amount of support just like the boys do. We also interviewed the coach and he said that he also believes that men do get more support than the girls.

“People like excitement,” said Coach Casey. “Its things like men could dunk which brings excitement. I think if the girls could dunk and do some of the things men can do in basketball, then they would get more people to watch and go to their games.”

Women feel like they should get more support through students and faculty.
