Desert Vista’s new policy

Coming back from a summer full of movies, late nights and hot days, you’re introduced to a distasteful requirement; the new ID badge policy. This new policy was shoved to us on our designated book distribution day. The new policy pertaining to our old friend is that students, staff and pretty much anyone on campus must be wearing an ID badge. The moment I heard about this requirement I was not too pleased and as were many of my classmates.

When I first walked into book distribution I was prepared to pay my five dollars for a new ID because I had green hair and braces previously. When I saw the sign to get new, free ID badge i was so much happier because the school was supplying them free of charge . Although little did I know that there was terrible news waiting for me. When I walked into the room for my picture, security guard Koenig or as known on campus, Walt, told me that I now have to wear the badge all the time no matter what. I was stunned and not very happy.

The reason for my dislike of the ID’s is it is the reason behind many of my in class distractions. Whenever I’m sitting in class and the teacher is lecturing I can tend to get sidetracked. To regain brain activity I resort to playing around with my ID badge. I’m not the only one that is guilty of this because in a small poll that was taken, Desert Vista students do mess with their badges during class. I personally do not like not paying attention in my classes.

In addition, I don’t like these badges because I like to keep bad pictures away from people I am trying to impress on a day to day basis. School campuses can be full of rude remarks, snarky comments and popular people who think they’re better than you. Having my ID badge in full view has led me to being called ugly or telling me I have bad hair. The badges are possibly leading to bullying, and it’s not a good thing for teeanagers to hear from their peers. I’m not the only one who has faced this dilemma because I’ve personally seen and heard the remarks people have made to their fellow classmates. The things people say to others because of the ID pictures is extremely insulting.

With this new policy enacted at our school I took my time to test the waters. I’ve come to a realization that I’m not a big fan of the ID badges because they distract me from my class and they’ve led to some rude comments. I’m not saying the school board should call off the policy, but does anyone really like these badges?
