The alleged attack on Christmas

Recently there has been a sort of outrage over Starbucks’ new “Red Cups”. These seasonal coffee cups are a solid red color, differing from the previous years that had traditional winter symbols such as reindeers and snowflakes on them. People are claiming there is a “war on Christmas”, and that Starbucks is sabotaging the Christian identity of America by pushing their politically correct agenda on everyone.

There are many things wrong with this statement, but the most obvious one should be noted first; reindeer and snowflakes aren’t exactly Christmas symbols. Other religions believe in reindeers too.

Donald Trump also chimed in with his very eloquently put opinion. “Maybe we should boycott Starbucks? I don’t know. Seriously, I don’t care,” he said at a campaign rally in Springfield, Ilinois.

There have also been other accusations of this “war on Christianity”. Let’s revisit the issue of Kim Davis, the radical county clerk that refused to issue same-sex marriage licenses. Many stand with her, saying that she holds the right as a Christian in America to honor her faith.

“Today, judicial lawlessness crossed into judicial tyranny. Today, for the first time ever, the government arrested a Christian woman for living according to her faith. This is wrong. This is not America,” said Ted Cruz, in a released statement.

The overarching theme here is that many Americans believe that not catering to Christians is a form of religious persecution. Hey, maybe they’re right. Obviously there are many evident and apparent instances of Christian oppression in this country. It’s shocking people are just standing by and letting Starbucks do this. But never mind the shooting at the South Meridan, Conn. mosque following the Paris attacks, or the brutal attack on a Muslim woman by a racially motivated individual at Indiana University, or the threatening fliers addressed to Muslim families in an apartment complex in Chicago saying “we want you out”.

God Bless America.
