Brown vs white rice

Brown vs white rice

Most people say that white rice is artificial and unhealthy and that brown rice is a better alternative. Others disagree, but what is this really about? Well let’s find out.

While it’s been said that eating brown rice can lower your chance of diabetes, it also has a lot of traits that your stomach does not appreciate. Brown rice has plenty of vitamins and minerals, but attached to these minerals are phytates and lectins. Phytates and lectins are anti-nutrients that stop the minerals from being absorbed, preventing the brown rice from being eaten by animals. So the bad stuff in the rice prevents the good stuff from being consumed.

White rice is a type of glucose that is super easy to digest, so it’s pretty much a safe starch. Brown rice is quite the opposite. Not only does brown rice have phytates and lectins, most times its bran and germ is still intact. The bran and germ in this type of grain makes it nearly impossible for your body to digest, putting you down with a serious stomachache.

I have found that white rice tastes better, as well. Brown rice is always kind of crunchy and hard, and you have to cook it for a really long time in order to eat it. All in all, brown rice isn’t as good as white rice. White rice tastes better, and is actually better for you.
