Should performance enhancing drugs be allowed in sports?

Performance enhancing drugs such as steroids have been a big topic of conversation in the sports world, currently they are prohibited but people have started fighting in favor of the drugs.

Those who argue in for performance enhancing drugs in the sports world claim that dropping restrictions preventing people from taking unfair shortcuts and gaining advantages on their opponents would level the playing field.  With the resource at everyone’s disposal it allows everyone to have the same chance.

The problem with that is the game is still filled with advantages.  Getting a good night’s sleep, staying hydrated, eating healthy are just a few.  If we wanted to make the game a more equal playing field that would mean banning every advantage; what would happen to any competition then?

The whole point of competition and sports in general is for athletes to work hard for what they achieve, if they are just handed a pill or a shot that would give it to them, anyone could be an elite athlete, it does not teach people the trait of working hard and striving to achieve a goal.

If performance enhancing drugs were permitted, what would it do to the young kids looking up to their favorite athlete and saying “I want to be just like them.”  The problem, their favorite sports player uses drugs, not hard work.  This will teach kids if someone is better than you, instead of working hard, turning to a drug that will put you on top of the competition.

In the end, what is  better, being a good athlete, but depending upon something to do it for you; or possessing natural hard work, determination and persistence to get to the top level?
