Another John Green Novel

John Green has an incredible imagination and creative mind that doesn’t stop with his novel, An Abundance of Katherines.

In the novel, Collin, a teenage boy, is amazing at math and has a thing for girls named Katherine. Upset by the end result of his own relationships, being dumped by 19 Katherines, Collin attempts to develop a mathematical formula for love, which could then be used to predict the outcome of relationships. While he tries to graph love, he finds himself in his own love predicament. Throughout the book, there’s friendship, action, heartbreak, and a romantic love story. The book has all the right pieces for an amazing read, but struggles to hold the reader’s interest in between these highlights.

Although some parts of the story consist of a lot of action, like the time they were chased by hornets through a forest, others are very dull. While the overall concept of the book is very interesting, much of the book seems pointless to the plot and uninteresting. The ending is predictable and somewhat boring.

In the end, I would give this book a 5.5 rating out of 10. John Green still has an amazing writing style. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes any of John Green’s other novels such as Looking for Alaska, Paper Towns, or The Fault in our Stars. However I would not recommend this to anyone that likes action or is looking for a good comedy.
