Native American Month Campus Decorations

Native+American+Month+Campus+Decorations

November is Native American Heritage Month; a month to celebrate the Native American Heritage.

Recently the Desert Vista Art Club and the Desert Vista Native American Club decided to meet and discuss how they can decorate the Desert Vista campus to celebrate the Native American Heritage month. The two clubs met last Saturday decorating the campus During the beginning of the month were decorations hung throughout the campus. The decorations included plastic feathers, and posters about facts on the Native American heritage that were hung throughout the school campus.

I believe that some of these decorations were acceptable and some were not. It was nice seeing posters with facts and interesting information on the Native heritage, however, putting plastic feathers around the campus can be very disgraceful to Native students, staff or anyone else in general. There was also not a lot of effort put into the decorations.

It was nice that students would take their time out of their weekend to come down to the Desert Vista campus to help decorate our campus for the month, but I think they should have done more than hanging posters and feathers around the campus. The problem with the decorations was that there really was not enough posters. Hanging up plastic feathers is something that students may find this racist towards other Native students.

In my opinion the two clubs should have put up bigger and more posters and should probably have ignored hanging up feathers on the walls in the future.
