$100 Sleepover

Relay for Life is coming to Desert Vista! It’s an event where you form a team and raise money to beat cancer. If your team can fundraise $100 by Valentine’s Day, you get to sleep overnight at school with your team and you get a shirt in your size. The money must be in by Valentine’s Day.

I asked students who have never done it before if they liked the idea and would do it.

“I would definitely do Relay for Life because it’s a fun way to raise money for such a worthy cause, like cancer. Many people suffer from cancer, so this will help them in ways we cannot describe,” said freshman Kharizia Ramos.

Karly Makay, freshman, thought so too. “Yes I would be interested because it’s a fun and interactive way to raise money for a good cause!”

Other students wanted to raise cancer awareness, but they thought doing it a different way would be more productive and raise more money, and they weren’t interested in the sleepover.

“I won’t be running in the relay for life because I don’t think it’s a good idea to spend so much time to only raise $100 when there are much better ways to get that money for cancer awareness,” said freshman John Perkins.

Some students also don’t have time to spend an entire night collecting donations and sleeping over because they are too busy.

“I don’t want to do it because I don’t have the time between my extracurriculars, dance, and school work,” said freshman Ava Gentry.

Therefore, it seems like everybody wants to raise money for cancer but don’t necessarily have the time or interest in this particular method, while some students are very interested and excited to help beat cancer!
