Desert Vista Spirit Weeks

At Desert Vista High School certain clubs and the student council help put on what we call spirit weeks. A spirit week is a where students dress up based off the theme of that week. For everyday of that week there is a different theme but all relate to the theme for that week. For example if the school has a school spirit day, students can choose to wear their school colors to show off their school spirit which is what the school aims for during a spirit week.

Next week, from Feb. 13 to Feb. 17, the “Be the Change” club is holding another spirit week for this month. The spirit days are as follows: Wear sweatshirts and sweatpants on Monday, wear red pink or white on Tuesday, wear your best superhero gear on Wednesday, wear tie dye or dress like a hippie on Thursday, and finally wear anything that shows DV spirit on Friday. The only problem is, will students participate in this month’s spirit week?

Spirit weeks at DV can be really fun to participate in, but not many students participate. I believe that the reason to this is that spirit weeks can be boring at times because they seem to repeat the same themes and they don’t announce spirit weeks on the announcements in which some kids don’t know what days to dress up. The next spirit week taking place at DV a week from now shows a great example of my reason. Next week on Thursday students dress up wearing tie dye’s or dressing as a hippie, but we already had a spirit day similar to this back when school started. This is probably why students don’t participate anymore because it’s the same idea every time.
