Cheer Tryouts

Desert Vista cheer tryouts were held in the small gym on March 20 through March 24. About 48 talented girls tried out with 15 getting cut.

“I enjoyed tryouts. I’m happy I made JV! Cheer is difficult, you have to work really hard but it gets you in shape. And it’s pretty fun,” said freshman Raquel Moraga, “We basically ran a mile every day of tryouts which wasn’t fun but I’m glad we did it because it showed that we could push ourselves. We learned a bunch of chants which I thought were good. And when we found out if we made the team we had to complete a scavenger which was fun and unique! Overall I enjoyed cheer tryouts and am glad I’m on the team!”

I enjoyed the cheer routines last year and I can not wait to see what they come up with this year! I like watching varsity the most since they are the most experienced! I hope tryouts have them ready for the season!

“Well we started everyday with running a lap around the school and then the graduating seniors taught us chants, a cheer, a dance, and how to do basic kicks and jumps,” said junior Kiahra Birelle, “We also have to show our coaches any tumbling we have and then the last day we try out with two other people in front of judges. They went very well and were earlier than last year so it wasn’t as hot when we were running. And more of my friends tried out so it was fun with them! Overall I really enjoyed tryouts!”
