Boys basketball soars into playoffs

The Desert Vista Boys basketball team has soared to a 23-4 record this season largely in part due to the performance of its star players, Brandon Clarke and Quincy Taylor.

Clarke, a 6’7’’ forward-guard, has been DV’s “Player of the Game” 14 times this season. A senior averaging over 17 points per game, Clarke leads the team in scoring and in defensive rebounds with over six per game. Quincy Taylor has also been performing well, averaging 12 points and two assists.

Head Coach Tony Darden can take a lot of the credit for DV’s success this season, leading them to a winning percentage of 85 percent, good for second in the state and 136th in the nation. Darden replaced Dave Williams as head coach of the Thunder in 2011.

When asked about what he thought of the team, Williams said, “Really good. Really good team. Very exciting. This is the best they’ve done in a year.”

Desert Vista’s boys basketball team has a lot to look forward to down the stretch as they look to make a run at the state championship.
