Anigwe leads the way

Sports are a major focus at Desert Vista High School. Not only do they impact the school’s reputation, but they make a huge difference in peoples’ lives.

For Kristine Anigwe, a 6’ 4” senior at Desert Vista, playing basketball has been her passion since she was in the seventh grade.

The reason for her continued success is because she has worked tirelessly to perfect her skills. Anigwe plays two positions on the court, both forward and center. Since she has started playing, Anigwe has been on four basketball teams (Desert Vista, USA basketball team, Adidas All- American team and The Elite Club Team).

“My mom always told me never to give up and try my best in everything I do,” said Anigwe.

Her mother is a huge inspiration when it comes to her dedication for the sport. Many years of devotion and hard work have brought her to state nationals after winning her middle school championship in her first year of playing.

Not only is she competing in nationals, but she recently signed a full athletic scholarship to attend and play for the University of California, Berkeley.

Her contributions have led her and the DV varsity girls basketball program to a 2014 state title and poised to repeat as champions in 2015.

“All our hard work has brought us here… I feel blessed,” said Anigwe.
