Playoff Picture 2015

The 2014-2015 NBA regular season is coming to a close, and with less than three games remaining, the playoff picture is all but finalized.

The East

In the East, the number one seed Atlanta Hawks will play the number eight seed Brooklyn Nets. The Hawks lead the regular season series 4-0, so the playoff series should breed the same result. Even if the Nets lose their spot, no team that clinches the eighth seed can stop the Hawks.

The number two seed in the East, the Cleveland Cavaliers, will face the number seven seed Boston Celtics. Though the Celtics have pulled off a miraculous comeback to earn themselves their first playoff berth in years, they won’t make it past LeBron’s Cavs.

The next two matchups have the number three seeded Chicago Bulls facing the number six seed Milwaukee Bucks, and the number four seed Toronto Raptors duking it out with the number five seed Washington Wizards. The Bucks have some young talent and depth, but it won’t save them against Chicago’s outstanding defense. The Wizards, like the Bucks, have some talent and may beat out the Raptors, though the series could lean in either direction.

The West

In the West, the number one seed Golden State Warriors, who have earned a franchise-record and NBA best 63 wins, will face the number eight seed New Orleans Pelicans. The Pelicans do have young superstar Anthony Davis, but with his questionable health, they won’t make it past The Splash Brothers’ deadeye shooting.

The next matchup is the number two seed Memphis Grizzlies facing the number seven seed Dallas Mavericks. Dallas has fought valiantly to earn a playoff spot, but they don’t have enough young talent to beat the Grizzlies.

After that, we have the number three and four seed Houston Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers playing the number six seed and number seven seed San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Clippers. The Rockets-Spurs matchup will be a good one, but Tim Duncan and his ailing Spurs have one more finals run in them and will beat the inexperienced Rockets. The Trail Blazers-Clippers matchup is also a highly-anticipated one as Damian Lillard and Chris Paul square off in a superstar point guard matchup. The Blazers made it to the semi-finals last year off of a spectacular Game 7 game-winning shot by Lillard. So this series could go either way, but I have the Clippers coming out on top.

After that, the Hawks will go on to play the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals and will ultimately lose. The Cavs will sweep by the Bulls and the Hawks will outmatch the Wizards.

In the West, the Warriors will barrel through team after team until they reach the Finals against the Cavs, where they will lose due to lack of experience.
