Fall sports preview

Fall sports preview

The fall sports season is starting up again and sports such as swim and dive, volleyball, cross country, golf and football are practicing for a start to great season.

What are coaches looking for in their players?

Selfless mentality of doing what is best for the team and a high effort level everyday despite the outcome,” said volleyball coach Molly West.

Girls cross country coach, Jeff Messer said, “Our program seeks highly dedicated students who seek to achieve excellence in all their academic and athletic endeavors in addition to serving as outstanding citizens.”

Major accomplishments made last year by girls volleyball, girls cross country and boys cross country, include state championships and other championship titles. Last year girls’ varsity volleyball won the state championship title. Girl’s cross country came in fifth place for the Nike National Cross Country Championship and earned the Arizona State High School Cross Country Championship. Boys’ cross country achieved the state championship title.

Volleyball is special because it’s the only true team sport. One player can’t do it all,” said Coach West.

“Their dedication to both academic and athletic excellence is completely inspiring and absolutely admirable,” said girls cross country coach Jeff Messer.

Football coach, Dan Hinds said, ”Our players are great guys. They try to make good decisions and represent our school in a professional manner.”

The season of Friday night football games, long runs in the morning and amazing feats in the water has begun.
