NFL power ranking

The NFL is in its 7th week of the season. However, a record does not mean everything. We will analyze stats, records and overall performance throughout this young season.

  1. New England Patriots (5-0)

This Patriots team may be better than last years, and that’s a scary thing for the rest of the league. This Patriots team is led by Tom Brady, fueled by this offseason controversy, deflate gate, and running back and tight ends Dion Lewis and Rob Gronkowski. The defense is led by middle linebacker Jamie Collins and Free Safety Devin McCourty. All in all this is a very complete team ready to contend for a Super Bowl.

  1. Green Bay Packers (6-0)

The Packers have always been good for as long as anyone can remember. This year’s team may just be the best they have had with Aaron Rodgers. Many people may look at the Packers as an offensively minded team. And they deserve that title with Aaron Rodgers and Eddie Lacy. However, the defense has been among the league’s best ranked, 2nd in sacks, 3rd in interceptions, and 4th in scoring. If the defense plays as well as the offense, this may be the NFL’s best team.

  1. Cincinnati Bengals (6-0)

Many people have doubts about the Bengals, they have made the playoffs the last three years, but have not won a playoff game yet. This season will be there best chance because, Andy Dalton has been playing out of his mind right now. The Bengals are ranked 6th in passing and Andy Dalton has the 2nd most passing yards. The offense does not stop there, however, as his receiving and running cast, led by AJ Green and Gio Bernard, are full of studs. The defense is having a bounce-back year, led by Geno Atkins. Another, very complete team ready to compete.

  1. Carolina Panthers (5-0)

This Carolina Panthers team is on a roll, staying undefeated while having no other pass catching options other than Greg Olsen. When Kelvin Benjamin tore his ACL during the offseason, many counted this team out, but not Cam Newton or his defense. Cam has been having an MVP year, and their defense has maintained its standing as a top five unit even without All-Pro linebacker Luke Kuechly. The Panthers are undefeated, and they aren’t even healthy yet.

  1. Denver Broncos (6-0)

The hype around this defense has been real, but there are some major flaws on offense. The defense has been the best in the league. With an outstanding secondary, and a feared defensive line. However, the damage is done within the linebackers. With Demarcus Ware, Brandon Marshall and Von Miller, this is the best linebacking core in the league. The defense has scored more than half of the team’s points. This “D” is legit. However, the offense is a different story, father time has finally caught up with Peyton Manning. As he has thrown more picks than touchdowns. If the offense can improve to average. Then you will want to fear the stampede of the Broncos.

  1. Atlanta Falcons (5-1)

The Falcons have been soaring high this season, and who could have predicted this? They hired Dan Quinn to coach this team to victory and he has done just that. Everyone knew that Matt Ryan and Julio Jones would be special, but they had no running game. Well now they do, and his name is Devonta Freeman, a 2nd year player from FSU, he has exploded this year. Also, the defense has been playing faster, more physical, and overall better than last year. Good things are happening in Atlanta.

  1. New York Jets (4-1)

The Jets also hired a new head coach, a guy named Todd Bowels, former defensive coordinator for the Cardinals. He has given all offensive duties to his coordinator. And the results have been fantastic, journeyman Ryan Fitzpatrick has seemed to finally have found a home with receiver Brandon Marshall. The defense is what has carried this team however. With a great secondary, a formidable linebacking crew and the best D-line in football. The Jets are soaring right now, and not many can stop it.

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers (4-2)

The Steelers have been ravaged with injuries and suspensions, yet keep finding ways to win. There is not much special about this team right now, but once Big Ben gets back, their offense will resume domination. In the moment however, they have been able to do what is needed with a top 3 back in Le’veon Bell, the best receiver in the game, Antonio Brown, and a good o-line. The Defense has been good and can only improve as the season goes on. This is a good team waiting for its star QB to return.

  1. Arizona Cardinals (4-2)

The Cardinals were destroyed by injuries last year, it got so bad that during the playoffs, they were on their 3rd string QB. This year however, the injury bug has not hit them nearly as much this year, and the results have shown. The offense and defense are some of the best in the league. However, the Cardinals have been very inconsistent, and it has hurt them with two losses. If they can be more consistent, they will be very scary.

  1. Buffalo Bills (3-3)

The Bills have had a ton of injuries to skill positions, QB, RB, and WR more specifically. However, when all of their players are playing, they are monsters. Tyrod Taylor is a stud, Sammy Watkins is a rising star, and Lesean McCoy is a great player as always. The defense has been underwhelming, but expect it to improve as they become more familiar with the playbook. There are studs on both sides on the football, so this team will bounce back.

  1. Minnesota Vikings (3-2)

  1. New York Giants (3-3)

  1. Indianapolis Colts (3-3)

  1. Philadelphia Eagles (3-3)

  1. Dallas Cowboys (2-3)

  1. St. Louis Rams (2-3)

  1. San Diego Chargers (2-4)

  1. Seattle Seahawks (2-4)

  1. Chicago Bears (2-4)

  1. New Orleans Saints (2-4)

  1. Miami Dolphins (2-3)

  1. Washington Redskins (2-4)

The Redskins have been surprising this year. They have no real QB, no real studs on defense, and they are doing the best they can with the talent they have. Coach Jay Gruden has done an outstanding job with this team. Give the ‘Skins another draft and watch them win.

  1. Oakland Raiders (2-3)

The Oakland Raiders have been a decent surprise this season. They have future stars on offense in Derek Carr and Amari Cooper. On Defense they are led by Charles Woodson, in his 18th season, and 2nd year star Kahlil Mack. Overall, this is a team with a new head coach, and tons of young players. Give this team a year or two, and they will be something to talk about.

  1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2-3)

Just like the Oakland Raiders, this is a young team, with young studs on both sides of the ball. Most notably Jameis Winston and Mike Evans. If these two can develop a rapport, then something special will happen for Tampa. The defense is bad, but has one of the best linebackers in the game, Lavonte David. This is a bad team that needs a little more time to develop.

  1. Cleveland Browns (2-3)

The Cleveland Browns are a horrible team, and there is not much hope around the Browns. Two consecutive bad drafts for Cleveland has hurt them tremendously. They are a team filled with journeymen vets and not enough young talent to offset that. They don’t have a future QB and have few cornerstones to build on. They need to get their act together because new uniforms do not help the on field problem.

  1. Baltimore Ravens (1-5)

The Ravens have been a huge disappointment this year. They have had injuries, but injuries show which teams are for real, and this year’s Ravens are not good. It may seem decades ago, but the Ravens won the super bowl in 2012. That Ravens team was tough, physical, and would beat you in the mental aspects. This Ravens team is soft, and that needs to change next season for them to get back on track.

  1. Tennessee Titans (1-4)

The Tennessee Titans have not made the most out of their talent. They have a future QB in Marcus Mariota, and many other building blocks on the team. However they lack in the mental parts of the game, and that falls on head coach Ken Whisenhut. Until they get a head coach that is competent, they will not realize their full potential.

  1. Houston Texans (2-4)

Your defensive linemen can only do so much for your team. Even with the best defensive player in the game, the Texans continue to lose. Mainly to the fact that the team has ignored the QB position. They have the core set in place, but until they get a competent QB, they are wasting J.J. Watts’s talent.

  1. Jacksonville Jaguars (1-5)

The Jacksonville Jaguars are in a very similar situation as the Titans. They have a great core in place, a starting QB, an up and coming RB, good receivers. They have gems on the defensive side on the ball in Dante Fowler, and others. However, their coach, Gus Bradley has proven he cannot coach an NFL team. So they need to get a veteran head coach who knows what he is doing.

  1. San Francisco 49ers (2-4)

The San Francisco 49ers might have had the worst offseason in NFL history. They lost Patrick Willis, Chris Borland, Justin Smith, Mike Iupati, etc. While no one expected the 49ers to compete with the best of them, I don’t think anyone predicted them to be this bad. The 49ers are going to compete in the near future, once they restock.

  1. Detroit Lions (1-5)

The Lions are lucky, after barely winning against the Bears in OT thanks to blown calls, they are no longer the NFL’s only winless team. The Lions are in a fast decline, and not much can stop it. They lost their starting defensive tackles in free agency. The Lions should improve, but they are a bad team right now.

  1. Kansas City Chiefs (1-5)

The Chiefs somehow won a game this season. This is a bad team with a game manager quarterback, no real threat at WR, and Jamaal Charles is injured. Justin Houston is a star, but that’s all they have. This Kansas City team is bad and they need free agency and the draft to come as fast as it can.
