Blackhawks season takes a big hit

After winning the Stanley Cup last season, the Chicago Blackhawks cannot find a way to keep a winning streak alive. Many significant events took place during the Blackhawks’ offseason, like big trades to the Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets. Not only that, but Patrick Kane was stuck in the middle of a court case.

As teams started trading players, the Blackhawks jumped on the bandwagon and traded beloved forwards Patrick Sharp and Brandon Saad. Sharp and Saad were key assets to the team. During the their collective postseasons in Chicago, Sharp tallied 43 goals and 38 assists, while Saad had 15 goals and 19 assists. All together, Sharp and Saad had 58 goals and 57 assists during the playoffs for the Blackhawks. Also, while Kane was out for part of the regular season, Sharp stepped up his game in Kane’s absence. Both Sharp and Saad were a big part of the Blackhawk lines. Sharp now plays for Dallas and Saad for Columbus.

Towards the end of the off-season, Kane found himself in deep trouble with an alleged rape case. The Blackhawks did not speak or talk to the media about Kane while he was under investigation. This case lasted so long that he could have missed pre-season training camp. The court’s decision was made before camp had started and the charges against Kane were dropped. When Kane stepped out onto the ice, fans had their own opinion, but his teammates did not treat him any differently.

Did everything that happened during the off-season affect their play? Losing two key players did in fact change the Blackhawks lines. The Hawks are 3-3 so far this 2015 regular season. Will the Blackhawks be able to bounce back from a rough start to the season?
