Chase Utley takes out Ruben Tejada

In two games of the Mets v Dodgers playoff series, Chase Utley slid into Ruben Tejada, second baseman, to prevent a double play. Utley ended up a breaking Tejada’s leg and he is out for the rest of the playoffs. As the Dodgers went into game three, Utley was allowed to play, but didn’t. Although, he was welcomed by many boos from Mets fans. The Dodgers went on and lost that game 13-7 and were eliminated from the series.

Originally, Utley was suspended for two games and would sit out for games five and six of the series. He appealed his two game suspension. The hearing was moved to later in the offseason. After this hearing takes place, any suspension that is given to Utley will not be put into play until next season.

“It’s nasty. It’s tough when it knocks a guy out like that especially during the playoffs” said former New York Yankee Derek Jeter. Tejada will be able to return by spring training of next season.
