University of Missouri stands against racism

The University of Missouri football team offered to forfeit their game Saturday game against BYU. If the university president did not resign, the team would not play. Not only would the loss effect the team’s record, but it would cost the University of Missouri one million dollars.

As players and coaches came together to take this stand against racism, one graduate student by the name of Johnathan Butler went on a hunger strike. The student would not stop until they got what they wanted, a faster more alert response from the president and the administration. Many racial slurs were being exchanged among the campus. Also, signs such as swastikas were being draw on walls of residence hallways. Both the president and administration of the university were very slow to react and fix these problems on campus. Players and coaches of all races to protest and try to get this problem solved. Head Coach Gary Pinkel cancelled practice on Sunday to be with his team and show them that they are doing the right thing. In this battle the students, players, coaches and everybody who supported this fight against racism won. The University of Missouri president later resigned and the team went on to play BYU on Saturday.
