The Australian Open, one of the four grand slam tournaments is being held in Melbourne, Australia. This tournament takes place from January 18th through January 31st. Many people take part in this tournament such as men, women and juniors. There are the men and women singles, men and women doubles and junior’s championships. Many matches take place inside the Margaret Court Arena. Countries from Argentina to Uzbekistan come to Australia to play in this international tournament. The biggest names in the tennis world play in this tournament,  such as Serena Williams, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Maria Sharapova and many more. Sharapova and Williams have played each other in many tournaments for a long time now and recently Williams won against Sharapova for the 18th time in the Australian Open. Another one of the big matches in the open took place on Saturday, January 23; Djokovic versus Simon in the quarterfinals. Djokovic came into the open seeded at number one and Simon was seeded number fourteen. Simon took Djokovic to five close sets: 3-6, 6-7, 4-6, 6-4 and 3-6. So far, Simon is the only one to take Djokovic to five sets, everybody else Djokovic has beaten in three sets. In the men’s singles, Andy Murray of Great Britain, ranked number two, played David Ferrer of Spain, ranked number eight, on Wednesday, January 27.
